Nickel is a metal used for products such as tools, Ni-Cd batteries, car batteries, jewellery, etc.

Nickel can cause contact allergy. For example, in case of wearing earrings containing nickel, itchy skin can occur even after a couple of hours, including possible occurrence of skin redness. Nickel contact allergy is a common cause of such reactions.

National legislation on chemicals defines bans and restrictions that apply on articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin, such as pierced ears or other pierced parts of the human body, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and chains, anklets, finger rings, wrist-watch cases, watch straps, rivet buttons, tightness, rivets, zippers and metal marks.
